The Genetic Apex

What they needed.
The Genetic Apex is an educational platform built on Harvard's Protective and Enhancing Alleles research, cataloging 87+ documented genetic variants across six biological domains. The challenge was credibility on two fronts at once: rigorous enough that researchers and science-literate readers would take it seriously, and accessible enough that someone encountering this information for the first time could actually navigate it.
What we did.
Institutional aesthetic, not academic clutter
The visual direction draws from institutional design without mimicking it. Clean typography, deliberate whitespace, and a clear content hierarchy communicate authority without requiring the user to already know the material. The site looks like it belongs alongside the research it presents.
Organized by how the body works
Content is structured around the six biological domains: Strength, Endurance, Mind, Perception, Immunity, and Recovery. Users navigate by what interests them, not by scientific nomenclature. That architecture decision shaped the entire design.
Built for two audiences in one experience
A curious general reader and a returning researcher both land on the same site. The content hierarchy is designed so each finds what they need in under two clicks, without the experience feeling dumbed down for one or gatekept for the other.
What it delivered.
